| Thank you for your interest in our KICK IT IN programs for teacher, staff and faculty in-service programs. Everything from single-school faculty meetings to district-wide workshops to professional association and convention meetings, KICK IT IN has been successful at "turning on the light bulbs" and giving participants more than just "something to think about." What is KICK IT IN? KICKing IT IN is all about inspiring students to motivate themselves, developing self-motivation and personal leadership. The first part or possible version of the program (anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours in length) is a fast-paced, high energy, entertaining educational presentation that's informationally insightful and inspiringly humorous. This segment of the program can stand by itself as an opening keynote, in-service, staff orientation or KICK off type program. The first segment focuses on:
- Paying attention and responding appropriately
- The more you put into it, the more you get out of it
- What you put into it, is what you get out of it
- If you're whining, griping & complaining, having a terrible time
- maybe that's why!
- Positive attitude vs. negative attitude, you make the difference
- Getting students as well as staff involved and cooperatively
contributing
- The discipline of focus and the power of attention
- Positively reinforcing yourself & others to make positive
choices
- Leading by example because you can't lead others until you lead
yourself
The second part or possible version of the program (anywhere from 60 minutes to all day in length) becomes even more interactive and experientially based. These workshop-like sessions have many activities (group, partner, and individual). Participants are involved with various activities, experiencing an enthusiastic atmosphere, while learning the importance of their individual participation. It's a chance for the individual person to become more aware of their potential, learn the concepts & tools needed to realize that potential (both as an individual & within a group), and to put the tools into use to create positive action!
Here are some additional topic areas our in-service workshops or breakout sessions have also covered:
KICK IT IN with
MOTIVATION! also called Motivating Kids to Motivate Themselves! This presentation deals with inspiring self-motivation in ourselves, our students as well as others. The goal is to understand the many foundational aspects of motivation in creating a sense of internal motivation rather than relying on external manipulation - knowing the only true form of motivation is self-motivation. This presentation also available for parent programs.
What Makes Kids KICK! Based on our latest series of books What Makes Kids Kick, this breakout session shares what today's students - a.k.a. the Millennial Generation - will be motivated by, are motivated by, and have been motivated by. Both strategy and tactics, this session provides educators and others working with today's postmodern kids a compass of thought or framework through which to see today's kids in a whole new way. Generationally, developmentally, and psychologically speaking, we'll explore why "carrots and sticks" are less effective today and how we can help more students motivate themselves intrinsically. This presentation is also available for parent programs.
KICK IT IN with
LEADERSHIP! Developing personal leadership in ourselves, our students as well as others is the key to making things happen. Getting people to do what needs to be done, when it needs to be done, whether they want to do it or not, without being asked - realizing that you can't lead others until you lead yourself.
FUTURE IDEAS that KICK! This presentation will "motivate" participants to look towards their personal vision of the future of education and what it will take to "move at it." Having the opportunity to work with hundreds of schools across the country every year allows us to share some of the best educational ideas in the business. There's no question that what's right with education can fix what's wrong with education if we're willing to change. This presentation looks at the future of education in an age of constant change. A facilitated exploration type format, many have used a version of this program to KICK start a consultation brainstorming process.
KICK IT IN with PORTFOLIO EVALUATION! This breakout session, based on the book Fran co-authored Portfolios Across the Curriculum and Beyond combines the rational & assessment research as well as the guidelines & pragmatic approaches within a concise format that you can actually use! Too many attempts at using portfolios end up being overstuffed scrapbooks with a letter grade slapped on the cover. This session is designed for participants to really make authentic assessment and improvement happen via portfolios.

When can we KICK IT IN? The first segment of this program works well at any point during the year. There is always great interest early in the year or semester. Perhaps a KICK off in-service keynote to get everyone moving in the same direction, staff retreats, new teacher orientations, professional in-service days or even as an evening staff/parent session. The workshop sessions are super as a keynote follow up, breakout session, special staff meeting, interactive retreat program and in-house workshop series. It is also very beneficial for inspiring new ideas within an organization and "upping" the attitude and awareness level of everyone who attends. The entire program has a strong message for ANYONE! Many variations have been utilized effectively to help everyone KICK IT IN! We especially enjoy customizing and focusing the program to better meet your individual needs.
Teacher In-Service Quotes
As you'll notice, the following
quotes are from other people like you who have KICKed IT IN! Their words
speak volumes as to the benefits of a program such as the one you are

"Your delivery of fast paced statistics and
humor were just great. The afternoon workshops that you presented to
the teachers were stimulating and just plain made you think about
some of the things that we do in the classroom. I have heard nothing
but favorable comments about your presentation. With hard economic
times in Missouri and teachers feeling like they are second class
citizens your comments on self-esteem and self-image were most
appropriate." |

"I want to thank you for such a marvelous
beginning to our in-service day at Spinning Hills Middle School.
Your presentation 'nailed' the concepts and concerns I wanted placed
before my staff. Excellent job!! Excellent Job!! While it was very
gratifying to see that you met my expectations, it was an even
bigger 'coup' to hear my staff was motivated and tuned in to our
task of the day. To say the least, my staff experienced genuine
enthusiasm from the beginning and maintained that high level of
enthusiasm throughout the day. It was a very productive in-service
and many of our goals were accomplished and just as important, we
are on firm footing for additional growth. Your KICK IT IN
presentation was the catalyst." |

"I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your enriching KICK IT IN presentation at our recent Diocesan Teachers Institute. There have been numerous appreciative comments made and the evaluation by the group was overwhelmingly positive. For many of us, myself included, the most impressive aspect of your presentation was that the message you conveyed was more than a concept to be learned, but a reality that you lived. Therefore, your comments concerning the power of positive attitudes, coupled with your repeated emphasis on 'the more you put into it, the more you get out of it,' took on a special significance for the group. However, I dare to say that it was your upbeat energetic, fast-paced delivery, together with your personable presentation skills and spontaneous humor that initially captured and skillfully maintained the interest and attention of the majority of participants." |
